Karlsruhe, Germany – To operate new safety systems, help satisfy growing demand for convenience functions, and, last but not least, run start-stop systems, today’s passenger cars need much more power. All this pushes even the most powerful starter batteries to their limits. As an additional source of power, cars equipped with a particularly large number of electrical consumers are therefore increasingly using dual battery systems featuring an auxiliary battery. Bosch has now augmented its product range with its S5 AX auxiliary battery series. Integrating particularly reliable and powerful AGM technology, these backup batteries have been specially developed for combustion engine vehicles featuring dual battery systems. They should not be confused with the significantly larger backup batteries in vehicles with electrical or hybrid powertrains.

Reliable performance even under high loads

In batteries with AGM (absorbent glass mat) technology, special fiberglass mats placed between the batteries’ lead plates bind the acid. As the resulting low internal resistance permits fast reactions between the acid and the plate material, the battery can provide more energy. Thanks to this technology, the Bosch S5 AX auxiliary battery offers reliable performance even at high peak loads.

This stabilizes the 12V electrical system and permits extended fuel-saving start-stop phases, as a safe start is guaranteed even when temperatures are extreme and convenience functions are running. With up to four times the cycle stability of conventional starter batteries, Bosch auxiliary batteries offer a longer service life. Their optimized grid design also ensures very good charge acceptance as well as continuously high starting power and corrosion resistance. Moreover, the S5 AX battery’s special cover design means it is completely maintenance-free.

In addition to the complete range of starter batteries for all vehicle segments, Bosch now also offers dealers and workshops high-performance auxiliary batteries with AGM technology, which are increasingly being used especially in premium cars.
