Stuttgart/Reutlingen – new possibilities and even more flexibility: Bosch eBike Systems expands the smart system, introduced last year, with numerous new products and features in the 2023 model year. The smart system combines high-quality, interconnected components with practical features that can be continuously expanded through over-the-air updates. Therefore eBikes with the smart system become a part of everyday life and guarantee an even more individual riding experience.

"The smart system points the way to the future of eBikes. In the 2023 model year, we will be expanding the product range of the new system generation, enabling additional areas of application – from eCargo bikes to trekking bikes and speed pedelecs," says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems. "With the new products and features, eBikers can further individualise their riding experience and take riding enjoyment to the next level."

Always comfortable on the road with the right drive unit and riding mode

Whether for transporting heavy loads, for leisure trips or for commuting – the smart system now offers the right drive unit for every usage situation. The Cargo Line, Performance Line and Performance Line Speed drives are now also part of the new system generation, alongside the Performance Line CX introduced last year. When picking up a child from daycare or doing the shopping with an eCargo bike, the Cargo Line provides powerful support. On excursions, eBikers with the Performance Line benefit from a natural riding sensation and a particularly quiet motor.
Commuters reach their destination more efficiently thanks to the Performance Line Speed, at speeds of up to 45 km/h.

Riding any type of eBike with the smart system is even more comfortable with the new Auto mode. In this riding mode, the support provided by the drive is automatically adapted to the environmental conditions, for example in the event of headwinds or uphill gradients, without eBikers having to exert more effort or switch riding modes. Being on the road with the eBike becomes even more relaxed and comfortable. Furthermore, Bosch is presenting the Cargo mode, a specially developed riding mode for eCargo bikes. With support of up to 400 percent, this is particularly suitable for trips with heavy loads. Despite the powerful support, starting remains very natural and easy.

Minimalist and robust control unit for an even cleaner eBike look

With the new System Controller, Bosch eBike Systems offers a slim control unit reduced to the essentials for the smart system. The control unit is the central interface between eBike and eBike Flow app, via which updates can be installed over-the-air. The System Controller can be seamlessly integrated into the top tube by the bike manufacturer and therefore fits in perfectly with the look of the eBike. In addition, it is protected from knocks and scratches in this position so is ideally suited for riding on trails. The control unit features two buttons and a deliberately limited number of functions – providing for a better overview. The buttons can be used to switch the eBike on and off and to switch riding modes. Thanks to the LED display, eBikers can see how much energy is still available from their battery and in the riding mode which they are riding. The soft-touch surface on the buttons prevents slipping and enables intuitive operation.

The System Controller is perfectly complemented by the Mini Remote, which is connected via Bluetooth. eBikers can easily retrofit the slim control unit and mount it on the handlebar themselves. The three additional buttons near the thumb mean that further functions such as the smart walk assistance with the new Hill Hold function, the eBike light or riding modes, can be easily used without having to take your hands off the handlebars. The Hill-Hold function automatically prevents the eBike from rolling back unintentionally. Riders then have ten seconds to activate walk assistance again before Hill Hold is deactivated.

Wireless display with intuitive operation

For users who want to focus even more on the road traffic in the city, Bosch eBike Systems offers the new Intuvia 100 display for the smart system. It is simple and intuitive to use and its display is particularly easy to read thanks to a size of 2.5 inches and large font. The display clearly shows the eBiker relevant ride data such as battery charge level, distance, ride duration, range and speed. Intuvia 100 is wireless and connected with the LED Remote control unit via Bluetooth – so the rider's hands always remain safely on the handlebars. The shift recommendation also enhances comfort: It indicates whether eBiker should shift up or down a gear in order to enjoy the riding experience and make optimal progress.

The right battery for all requirements

many users wonder what the ideal battery would be. Not only for sporty trails, but also on lengthy trips or daily errands. To enable them to select an energy supplier perfectly tailored to their needs from the smart system in the future, Bosch eBike Systems has expanded its portfolio to include the PowerTubes 500 and 625 as well as the PowerPacks 545 and 725. All of the PowerPacks are compatible with one another. Those who initially opt for a smaller battery can simply retrofit a larger one at a later date if required, provided the eBike manufacturer's installation solution allows for this.

New features further enhance the eBike experience

Bosch eBike Systems has increased the range of functions of the smart system in the digital area as well. The eBike Flow app – the heart of the smart system – offers eBike Alarm and other new features. eBikers will soon be able to import their routes via komoot and navigate along the waypoints via the navigation screen. Apple users can now also have their heart rate displayed on the smartphone's ride screen, thanks to Apple Watch connectivity.

From model year 2023, end customers will have the option of having a digital service book, which records service and maintenance work, kept by their specialist retailer. It can be printed out and handed over to them on request, because a well-maintained service book can increase the resale value of the eBike.
