The current stack version is an assembly of 400 cells each generating 1.2 volts. The entire stack thus generates roughly 500 volts. The efficiency of a fuel-cell system is some 10 to 15 percent higher than a combustion engine. Mean efficiency is roughly 50 percent. One kilogram of hydrogen contains as much energy as 3.3 liters of diesel.
