Plochingen, Germany – According to a study by ADAC, it’s still easy to manipulate odometers – despite the 2017 EU regulation that mandates protection for new vehicle models against odometer fraud.1 For used electric vehicles, a DEKRA study shows a distinct lack of trust in the performance of drive batteries.2 These findings make it clear that achieving transparency on vehicle status is a major challenge for the used-car market. Up to now, determining the health of a used car called for a great deal of technical know-how and a time-consuming inspection. Now Bosch is introducing the Bosch Vehicle Health Certificate, a manufacturer-independent solution for quickly and easily assessing and documenting the health status of a used car based on stored vehicle data. The Bosch certificate provides not only sellers and buyers of used cars but also mobility service providers, vehicle dealers, and fleet operators with a neutral basis for determining residual value. This brings transparency and trust to the used-car trade.

Users of Bosch’s ESI[tronic] Evolution diagnostic software will have the option of subscribing to the used-car assessment service. This software, in conjunction with the KTS 560 or 590 diagnostic module, enables the data stored in the vehicle control units to be read out and analyzed. An innovative software system consolidates the data to produce a Bosch certificate specific to the vehicle. Depending on the scope of the service package, the certificate lists all trouble codes from the vehicle system, identifies past accidents and overdue maintenance, reveals any potential manipulation of the displayed mileage, and documents the current battery capacity of electric cars.

ESI[tronic] Evolution software expands workshop business via remote access to vehicle data

The new used-car assessment service is easy to integrate into existing workshop processes using the ESI[tronic] Evolution workshop software. This presents workshops with the potential to achieve additional sales with new customer groups in the used-car market. The solution also strengthens customer relationships by offering trustworthy support for used car trading.

While a standard used-car inspection in a workshop requires a great deal of manual effort, the Bosch Vehicle Health Certificate offers a quick and easy assessment of the vehicle’s health status. All the workshop needs to do is requesting the certificate generation via the ESI[tronic] Evolution. Various service packages are available, which offer different scopes of vehicle assessment. Once the workshop mechanic has connected the vehicle via a Bosch KTS 560 or 590 diagnostic module, the readout of the stored vehicle data and the creation of the Bosch certificate starts. Workshop customers receive the certificate right there and then, either digitally or as a printout.

Bosch is introducing the Bosch Vehicle Health Certificate in response to the lack of transparency and trust in the market for used cars. The new service will be launched for selected European customers starting in 2025. It will be made available to additional customers and in more countries over the course of next year.
