Karlsruhe, Germany – To raise their boiling point, conventional brake fluids contain borates. But these are classified as toxic; they can affect fertility and endanger unborn children. That’s why brake fluids have to be handled with protective gloves and goggles, and why pregnant women should avoid any contact with brake fluid. Now Bosch has developed a brake fluid called DOT 4 E that contains no hazardous borates and achieves a good balance between a high boiling point and low viscosity. Because it isn’t classified as a hazardous substance, it’s safe for pregnant women to handle. What’s more, it exceeds the international DOT 4 standard and demonstrates low viscosity. This makes it suitable for many vehicle types with ABS and ESP. In developing the new brake fluid, care was taken to ensure that it exhibits low electrical conductivity and – like all other brake fluids from Bosch – can be used in electric vehicles.

More environmentally friendly packaging with a shelf life of 30 months

Bosch’s new DOT 4 E brake fluid comes in a bottle made of 100 percent recycled plastic, which also makes it even more sustainable and environmentally friendly. In comprehensive testing, Bosch ensured that the recycled bottles can keep the brake fluid fresh for up to 30 months.

This new product is of particular interest to workshop customers who value environmental protection and sustainability: they get a brake fluid that features more environmentally friendly packaging and is not classified as a hazardous substance. Bosch’s new brake fluid chimes with growing efforts to avoid hazardous substances. In workshops, it simplifies hazardous substance management and, moreover, is safe for all mechanics to handle.
